Text Exchange (aka Fridge Door Project)
A text exchange project that involved taking a fridge door around the North of England. The door was set with magnetic letters reading ‘follow your inner moonlight; don’t hide the madness’ – a quote attributed to Allen GInsberg. Participants enjoyed a cup of tea and a chat before being left alone with the door. They then rearranged the letters, and I chose a location to photograph the ‘new’ door based on the conversation over tea.
The second stage of this project was a static installation, starting again with the same phrase, but with visitors to an Open Studios even free to play with and change the words throughout a 72 hours period. Polaroid photographs were taken of many of the arrangements.
